August 2023 Newsletter
August is a time when we often think about transitions. We prepare ourselves for the end of summer and the return to school. We begin to think about fall weather as the days grow shorter.
This month, we’ll mark a milestone transition at Shaolin Studios. After nearly 20 years, Senior Masters Steve and Lisa will be stepping away not only from daily operations and teaching, but they will also be stepping away from Pittsburgh when they move to the coast of Maine to be near family and to fulfill a life-long dream of living a stone’s throw from the ocean. Words cannot express the extraordinary gratitude we feel for the special martial arts community that they’ve built and for the wonderful friendships that have grown from this community. We are honored and humbled to carry on the legacy that they have handed down, and we will strive to ensure that our community flourishes long into the future.
M. Lisa and M. Steve will continue to teach regularly throughout the month of August on Mondays and Saturdays. If you have a chance to stop in on one of those days to wish them well, please do so. We will also be hosting an open-house reception on Saturday, August 26th from 2:00 - 4:00pm at the studio to provide an opportunity for students and their families to wish them well before they head to Maine on August 31st. All are welcome to stop by.
Never fear, M. Steve and M. Lisa will be returning to the ‘Burgh regularly, not only to visit their daughter, Lauren, but to also participate in special events, clinics, and Black Belt tests at the studio. Their first return to Pittsburgh will be for our Black Belt test on October 6th, as well as the 20th anniversary celebration and demonstration on October 7th ... don’t miss the festivities and chance to say hi, as well as to meet Grandmaster DeMasco!
