August Newsletter 2024
And just like that, summer is winding down once again! We hope you’ve had a chance to relax and enjoy some time off with family and friends. Thanks to everyone who joined us for fun summer events, including our Movie Night in the Park and last weekend’s Summer Camp for Adults. We had a blast!
August will be a busy month, kicking off with our annual Black Belt Test for adult students on Friday. It is an extraordinary accomplishment for a martial artist to reach this stage in their training, and I hope you’ll join me in wishing all those who are testing the best of luck.
As we head into the fall, kids go back to school, schedules and routines change, and sometimes we feel like our training could use a little boost. From August 16 through 30, we’ll be offering Back-To-School Refresher sessions, semi-private lessons to help you get ahead or get back to it. Whether you want to refresh your material after a summer break or want some focused attention to work on a move or form, all students are welcome to schedule a session.
On Saturday, August 10th we’ll be offering a SETpoint Empowerment Self-Defense workshop, open to the public! This is a great opportunity to learn practical self-defense tools from increasing your awareness, to setting boundaries, to fundamental physical resistance tools. If you know someone heading off to college, new employment, or someone who just wants to gain confidence for their everyday interactions, sign up here.
Finally, this summer, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Senior Master Lisa and Senior Master Steve for a wide-ranging conversation about training in the martial arts. The topics we covered included maintaining motivation, visualization in training, and cross training. I’m excited to share this conversation with our students across a few blog posts. You can read Part 1 here.Thank you for being part of this wonderful community of martial artists and the families and friends who support our practice!
